Internal Storage System ...the Discovery 1 transformation continues
It’s been a long time coming, I know, but life got in the way, as it sometimes does. I started doodling designs and ideas three years ago, `life' happened, and it took me a year or so, in between 'life', to get the various bits and pieces together and made up. The installation process thereafter was pretty quick. And then I stalled a further six months before finally getting all the photos together.
In summary, I used 9mm and 6mm plywood to make up the boxes, drawers, and shelving. Everything is glued and screwed together and sealed using water-based sealant; clear on surfaces not visible and grey on all those that are visible and where I wasn’t going to be covering them with felt.
The aluminium trim on certain edges adds protection, and thereby longevity, where I deemed it necessary. I also chose to line the upper surface of the ceiling storage with rubber matting, once again, for longevity.
I stripped out all the rear seats and most of the upholstery and paraphernalia from behind the front seats back, laid down some rubber matting, covered that with the original carpeting, added in a network of electrical cabling for the solar regulator, inverter, compressor, 12V & 220V plug points, as well as LED lighting, and then fitted all the completed storage units ... not without a fair bit of coaxing, fumbling, hammering and cursing it must be said. I have the tendency to try and be too exact in my measurements. It would have been a lot easier had I shaved off a millimeter or two here and there in the initial planning phase.
That being said, it thankfully all worked out and so I'll let the "pictures speak a thousand words" ... as apposed to me drivelling on.
